Mining Your Own Business


Two weeks ago, I shared a few short emails about distraction and focus.

One point I made was this:

You probably already have enough.

Your years of experience, the work you've done, tough lessons learned along the way. You have the battlescars to show.

My guess is you don’t need more tools, frameworks, courses, and such.

Rather, check your fridge and make use what you already have.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

A few people replied with the obvious question:

"What do you do with all that then?"

Allow me to share a simple approach that’s been working well for me.

I call it the Weekly Dig.

(I just made that name up).


Once a week, go back into your own archives and skim through your old projects, testimonials, folders, pitch decks, notes, frameworks and such.

Pick one you think is worth sharing.

Create a quick one-pager and answer three questions:

  1. What did I find (what's the idea)?
  2. Why is this relevant for my audience?
  3. How am I going to share this?

That’s it.


Here’s a quick example.

The other day, I came across an old ICP scorecard I learned about years ago. A simple framework to get clearer on who you're trying to work with and how good the fit is.

I took a screenshot of it. Added a few notes in Canva. Clarified the idea and who it might be useful for.

Then I talked it out in ChatGPT. To get the thinking out of my head and onto the page.

A few minutes later, I had a small chunk of text with an image I could work up in one or more solid pieces of content.

That’s the Weekly Dig in practice.

It took but a few minutes.

You don’t need to decide the format yet - email, LinkedIn, reel, long video - that can come later.

Just capture the core of the idea first.

If you’d rather batch a few in one sitting, fine. The point is giving your past work a way back into the present.


Do this for a few weeks and I bet you you'll see how much relevant stuff you already have at the tips of your fingers.

You stop wondering what to say. You stop reaching for more input. You start building a small bank of ideas you can dip into.

These are your things; the things you've lived, tested, interacted with and (hopefully) learned from.

So you can bring them to life in a way others can’t and those are the things worth sharing.
